But since we had the mutual coming over in three days we decided that we needed to talk to our pool man on fixing the problem. Jerson, our pool guy, spent the next several days cleaning, scrumbing, and running the filter almost 18 hours each day trying to get the pool back to its sky blue color. But nothing. The pool just kept getting greener by the day.
I don't remember a lot from college. I can't remember the formulas that I learned in my physics or math classes. I don't remember the chemical elements or even how to diagram a sentence. What I did learn in college and use each and every day was how to problem solve. We had a problem that needed solving - why is the pool getting greener and greener with each day even with so much care and attention?
I determined that it must be in the filter. It took me about 25 minutes, but I final was able to figure out how to open the pump and get into the filter. This is what I saw.
The filter looked like it hadn't been cleaned for over a year. There was no way that the water could be filtered clean, because there was not a clean spot on the filter anywhere. After about 25 minutes of hard labor I was able to clean out the filter to the point of looking brand new. This is what the filter is suppose to look like:

After we put the clean filter back in the pump our pool was blue again within several hours. Goes to show what a college education will do for you - keep your pool clean!
