The Return of the Chicken
So we are back to 4 chickens: 2 native chickens that Glessie bought for us at the market, 1 native chicken that Glessie brought from her island, and 1 native chicken, Odette who has been labeled a boy, that we raised from a baby chick.
Odette has been a greate chicken and is the most friendly of them all. Now, our gardener, Glessies's father, tells us that Odette is really a girl chicken. Go figure. Now Odette is older there is no question that she is not a rooster, but a hen. I thought so from the beginning, but the professional said otherwise. We are happy to know that we will not have to get rid of Odette, yet she still will not be laying eggs for 3 - 4 months.
Now, do you remember Mario the chicken that disappeared one night. Well, she just reappeared the day before yesterday. Mario, Jonah's chicken, returned to our yard after being gone for over 4 weeks. Jonah was the one that found her. Yesterday night Jonah kept saying that there is a new rooster in our yard. We ignored him thinking nothing of it, but sure enought it was a new white chicken. The chicken is the same breed as Mario was, but appears to be a bit small compared to Odette's size. However, Odette was twice the size of Mario when he disappeared without a trace.
Crazy isn't it! Jonah is very happy that his chicken has returned. Mario seems to be her old self - if it is really Mario or just some stray chicken - bullying around the chickens that are twice her size. Mario is not afraid of the kids and appears to know her way around the yard. So now we are back to 5 chickens again.

It's so fun to see pictures of you, Ashton and Jonah! We miss you all so much! Keep taking good care of the chickens. I used to "visit" all the white chickens that my Grandpa and Grandma Bowen had at their place in River Heights when I was a young girl.
Love,
Grandma Davies
