1. Ashton recently got a haircut and requested that his hair be left just slightly longer in front - long enough so he could spike it up. Ashton has always liked his hair short, short enough that he never even had to comb it. Now he is anxiously awaiting the purchase of some hair gel. In the meantime, each morning finds him in front of the mirror, combing the front portion of his hair into spiked position and spraying it with hairspray.
2. Ashton loves doing Perler Beads. For those of you who haven't tried these, they can be found at Walmart's craft department, or at JoAnn's. We had to order a bunch and have them shipped because you can't find them here. Kids can follow a pattern, or make their own pattern, of beads on a tray, and then Mom needs to hurry and iron the beads together before the younger siblings (or Mom at a clumsy moment) spill the beads and ruin the creation. He literally spends hours on projects. Right now he is working on a finger-football set which includes a football field, goal posts, two players, and a football. Here is a photo of Ashton and Savannah working on pegs. Warning: If you buy these, expect to step on or discover dozens of little beads on the floor around your house for the rest of your life.
3. Ashton has really stepped up to take responsibility for the chickens. The coop is now in the backyard (thanks to some heavy-lifting help from Dad and his associate, David Hall, on Saturday!) and the chickens have taken up residence. At least three times a day, Ashton excuses himself to go outside and make sure the chickens have food and water. He is very vigilant! All the kids enjoy going out to visit the chickens several times a day, but Ashton really makes a wonderful caretaker.
4. Ashton has been reading more and more these days. It has been really fun to hear his excitement as his abilities take off!

Why is it always the teeny-tiniest things that kids love playing with the most? Because they make the biggest messes! (At least, with my kids.)
I love all the pictures, and looking at them close-up is almost like playing "I Spy." I spy two floating forks near Ashton's craft, a hen who flew the coop, and...is that a Skor cake? Also, those are some cool mint green kitchen chairs!
Your comment made me laugh. Yes, we do have very cool green kitchen chairs around our gi-normous round marble-looking table. The table has a glass top that always traps water underneath it, hence the forks (to aerate out the water). It would be a Skor cake if they had Skor bars here. I think we used Toblerone.
