This is a picture of Ashton & Savannah with their friends Nicole and Nathaniel. Nicole and Nathaniel are twins and are children of the neighbors maid. They live in the maid quarters. At age 7 they are a perfect fit for our kids. Because their mom works all day, they seem to find it to our house every single day rain or shine. When we leave, they are waiting by our gate when we get home. Just the other day, I walked through our kitchen and there looking through our glass door was Nathaniel waiting for Ashton to come out and play. They are very well mannered kids yet very quiet. Nicole doesn't say much but she is very smart. Nathaniel is the Huck Finn / Tom Sawyer of the neighborhood. Since we have been here Nathaniel has showed us how to play with 3 inch garden spiders and how to care for a bird with a broken wing. It is great that the kids have some friends to play with each day and also someone to share with as well. Nicole and Nathaniel have found a heaven at our home with so many toys, swimming pool, and the Wii.

Looking at this picture reminds me of how in Taiwan I began to think of myself as red-skinned instead of white. One time this boy touched my face and when he said something to a Chinese teacher she began to laugh.
She explained that he'd said, "Her skin feels different because her's is red and mine is very, very white."
I had a whole new perspective on skin color! :)
